SAMUSO is an initiative curatorial office founded in 2005 based in Seoul, Korea. Its innovative activities are to provide diverse programs and events to art institutions and museums and to lead a new form of exhibit art in and out of Korea. It creates a range of exhibitions and educational programs as well as publication, public lectures and symposiums in contemporary art related to cultural contents.

 

Especially SAMUSO focuses project-oriented activities by organizing thematic exhibitions. The annual contemporary art festival, “Platform Seoul” is one of the important projects by SAMUSO, which covers productions of new ideas by leading artists in and out of Korea and offers specialized programs for the public.

 

Diverse activities of SAMUSO help contemporary Korean artists work in the international art field and make Korean audience more easily approach to a new wave of contemporary art in networking with art institutions and museums abroad.

 

Curated by Sunjung Kim
Sunjung Kim is a Seoul-based independent curator. She has played a pivotal role to interchange between Korean contemporary art and the international art field since 1990s. As the chief curator of Artsonje Center (1993-2004), she curated exceptional Korean artists’ exhibitions and also created a new form of exhibitions with international artists. She was the commissioner of the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2005. From 2006 she initiated the annual contemporary art festival “Platform Seoul” for the first exhibition tilted <Somewhere in Time>. In 2007 she presented the exhibition Platform Seoul 2007, <Tomorrow>, featuring 32 international artists. In 2008 she curates several exhibitions as a director of SAMUSO including “Correspondence”, “Minouk Lim’s Solo Exhibition”, "Platform Seoul 2008: I have nothing to say and I am saying it".
